Side by Side Farm is accepting applications for two  interns for 2014, one full-time and one part-time.

Our farm is located in an idyllic country setting, but is less than an hour’s drive north of Baltimore.  This position will be great for individuals with some prior farming experience or for someone who is dedicated and looking to gain a more solid farming experience.  Our farm is 12 acres; we grow on 3 acres for our vegetable CSA, have several kinds of brambles, berries and fruit trees, and the balance of the land is woodlots and pasture.  We grow a handful of specialty crops, including baby ginger, lemongrass, shiitake, and oyster mushrooms.  In addition, we have several flocks of chickens and other animals, which we rotate.  To read more about the farm, visit our website at:

We are looking for hard working, open-minded, energetic people to join our team.  Prior farming experience is a plus, but is not necessary for the part-time internship.  Internships are 1 year for full-time and run from mid-March to the end of October for part-time.  We prefer that interns commit to the full season, but we have some flexibility with start and end dates.

Interns will receive hands-on experience in all aspects of small-scale farming, are expected to work 40 to 50 hours a week, attend Farmers Markets, and make some deliveries.  We will also provide you with readings from core sustainable farming texts, some more technical and others philosophical, and we will be discussing these at length.  You will receive a monthly stipend, commensurate with experience, as well as an abundance of fresh vegetables from the farm.  Housing is available for the full-time intern and possible housing is available for the part-time intern.

To apply, please email the following to

(1)  A cover letter detailing your interest in farming and any related work experience.  Please also tell us what your availability will be, including start/end dates and which days of the week work best for you.

(2)  Resume

(3)  2-3 work references

We always welcome volunteers at the farm.  There are a wide range of tasks that always need to be done, including in the field and office, depending on what you’re interested in.  Please get in touch with us at: for more info!
