Side by Side Farm uses only organic growing practices–we do not use any synthetic herbicides, pesticides or fertilizers. We use age-old, natural soil building techniques to produce vibrant, healthy produce. We do not have USDA organic certification; however, we are certified through Certified Naturally Grown, which requires compliance with the same standards used by the USDA’s National Organic Program.

We also utilize principles of permaculture in our management. The farm is laid out according to logical zones with an eye towards sound water management and preservation of natural habitats for birds and beneficial insects. We incorporate compost and natural mulches to increase organic matter in the soil. We also work with soil-building animals, moving them through a rotational grazing system that at once fertilizes our fields and reduces insect pressure.
Building the soil is a top priority for us. The equation is simple: great soil makes great food!
